Press Launch of Asia Pacific Hockey Summit - Philippines
Be part of this coolest sport in town, as our country will be hosting the Asia Pacific Hockey Summit to be held at SM Ice Skating Rink in SM Mall of Asia introducing one of the glorious sports of all time, and to support in believing that we can win the ice competition.
A four day mini ice hockey events were scheduled as preview for the upcoming first ever Asia Pacific Hockey Summit on August 2011. Dates of mini ice hockey activities started on July 22 followed by July 29, August 5 and 6 respectively and will be participated by the 3 local teams namely: Manila Hawks, Manila Saints, and Manila Ice Hockey League. The said pre-event will have exhibitions, tournaments, and trainings from coaches.
On its first day (as kick off to start the pre-event), an awarding ceremony was held of the Minor Hockey League, a league that was organized by SM Ice Skating; followed by on ice exhibitions and an ice hockey tournament.
Quoting from Raymund Retumban, Division Manager of SM Ice skating rink said:
We at SM Ice Skating is just happy thhat among the many countries here in Asia who have ice skating rinks, Mr Mike Condon chose Philippines to set their training camp, that's why we came up with our pre-event of the Asia Pacific Hockey Summit.
Also he added; SM Ice skating started with a lot of walk ins interested in figure skating, several Filipinos figure skaters did give Philippines gold medals, now it's time that we also look forward to ice hockey.
Apparently, Manila Predators set another record in winning the Asian men's B division ice hockey 5s championship held in Hong Kong.
Making its way to the international arena, Lenard Rigel Torreno Lancero II, known in the ice arena as LR Lancero, a 15 year old ice hockey player from Bacoor, Cavite and the youngest ice hockey player in the Under18 division who made it to the North American Hockey League prospects through the Boston Junior Rangers.
So, boys and girls get ready on the new ice sport that is about to happen through the help of SM Ice Skating 'hockey clinic program' wherein you can enroll for a complete set of gears, and at the same time to discover something new open for all ages.
Also, watch out for the launch of new set of hockey gears this August, hockey will start slashing ice here in the Philippines so go head to head with the international teams.
