Race with Pride: Stefano Marcelo for Cebu Pacific
Only 18 years old, Stefano’s world-class achievements have already inspired many young Filipinos. |
Travel and Sports, a great combination of bringing home the pride and honor at the same time traveling to a place where you won. This time, the first Filipino that won third place in 2007 Belgian Karting Championship series and qualifying 1st out of 80 drivers in the time trials of 2008 World ROK Cup Finals, Stefano Marcelo was invited by Tony Kart Racing team owner Roberto Robazzi to join his elite team alongside Formula One racing champs Michael Schumacher, Jarno Trulli and Sebastian Vettel.
With Stefano’s world-class motor sports skills, he continues to cruise the world’s most popular race tracks, bringing pride and honor to the country with his determination to triumph in the competitive world of karting.
This July, he will once again showcase his skills in the prestigious Asian Karting Open Championship, which takes place in the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Macau. Helping him achieve greater heights in the coming race is Cebu Pacific, the country’s largest national flag carrier. With the most extensive network of domestic and ASEAN destinations, Cebu Pacific brings Stefano to top racing sites to help him achieve more world-class feats.
“Cebu Pacific is great for young Filipinos because it offers good rates,” Stefano said. “It enables us to travel, experience new things and learn so we will become more cultured. Because of low fares, we get to see more of the world, for less.”
From Thailand to Spain’s magnificent racing circuits, traveling from one country to another has been an integral part of Stefano’s career as a world-class athlete.
“Traveling allows me to become a better athlete because I get to go abroad and compete at different levels of competitions,” Stefano said. “It allows me to gain knowledge and experience. Whatever I achieve is ultimately for the Filipino people, so I do my best in order to achieve as much as possible.”
Like many young karters, Stefano also dreams of competing in formula races in the future.
“I would like to race in Spa-Francorchamps one day in formula cars. I have already driven in a section of the racetrack for the 2007 Belgian Karting Championship, but to do the full track in a formula car would be amazing as the track is said to be one of the most beautiful circuits in the world,” he said.
As Stefano gears up to represent the country in more international races, Cebu Pacific—the country’s number one airline—will continue to help him zoom towards the finish line.
