Veteran Designer Anthony Nocom Tackles Ipanema Resort Wear Collection 2012
Manila, Philippines — Men's fashion has more dimension than just wearing the right color and right size.
In the Philippines, men's fashion has evolved so much that Filipino males are now conscious about tailoring, structure and style. This evolution was brought to local shores by design trailblazers such as Anthony Nocom, who led the creation of fashion-forward looks for men.
A veteran designer in the local fashion scene, Nocom, also known as Tonichi, has been designing commercial menswear since the 1980s. He is known for his collections that were defined by cleanly tailored linen suits and separates that embody a cool and crisp vibe. He said his design aesthetic is very much similar to how he likes to dress himself.
"I like to wear clothes which make me feel good and comfortable. Clothes express a person's style of dressing," Nocom said.
This year, Ipanema, stylish Brazilian flip-flop brand, once again invited Nocom to create the Resort Wear Spring Summer Collection for 2012 inspired by the designs of selected flip-flops for the season. He designed two looks based from the bold beach colors from the Ipanema Surf Tomas Masc II and the tribal prints of Ipanema Classica Urbana Masc.
He said flip-flops have gone a long way from being just basic footwear. "It has become a fashion item for women more than men. This footwear will never go out of style because it can be worn by both sexes."
Nocom described his resort wear collection collaboration with Ipanema as 'dressing up at the resort club.'
"They are clothes one would wear at a resort for a night of partying or attending an event in a resort club," Nocom enthused. "It's not just typical t-shirt or tank top and board shorts but in a dressier manner—with fabrics in cotton, linens, silk blends and jersey knits."
He said his palette for the Spring Summer Collection 2012 is composed mostly neutrals such as white, blue and black, but with bright colors as accents. He defined his collection for Ipanema is luxe resort wear.
"It's more of the attitude in dressing - relaxed and cool. My designs are what people would wear appropriately at a high-end resort," Nocom said.
Truly a one-of-a-kind style partnership, Nocom and Ipanema combined their distinctive design aesthetics to create a vibrant and exciting collection for all fashion-forward gentlemen.
