Experience Scandinavian Cooking with Sara La Fountain at Megaworld Lifestyle Malls

Megaworld Lifestyle Malls in partnership with the Asian Food Channel is bringing American-Finnish celebrity Chef Sara La Fountain to Eastwood Mall on June 3 and Newport Mall on June 4.

Chef, model, entrepreneur, author, columnist, model and blogger, Chef Sara La Fountain was trained in The Culinary Institute of America in New York. She’s now based in Finland where she’s become a familiar face on TV with hosting jobs in Avec Sara, Perfect Day, and New Scandinavian Cooking. Even though she’s a celebrity in Finland, she may be familiar in our shores as she has been a modeled for several brands including Puma.

Apart from being a media personality, Chef La Fountain has a catering service and a cooking school. She also writes on her blog, Passion for Fashion & Food, and for columns in different Finnish publications. Extending her writing repertoire, she won the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Award in the “Best First Cookbook” category for her first book, A La Sara. Another book she came out with is Perfect Day, which is a recipe book that sprung from the TV show with the same name. She also authored Passion for Food, which shows recipes on Finnish dishes inspired by the seasons in Finland.

Chef La Fountain is an expert on Scandinavian cooking. To give a little bit of background on the cuisine, a lot of the ingredients in Scandinavian cuisine come from the sea, lake, and even the ground. Food in this part of Europe includes fish, meat, beets, potatoes, cucumbers, and fruits which are broiled, baked, and smoked. They also have deer, elk, bear meat, and horsemeat. In history, this cuisine was food for the Vikings. Salting or smoking their meat and fish were traditional ways of preserving their food, which remains to be a practice to this day.
For the Philippine tour, Chef La Fountain is going to share a few ways on how to prepare Scandinavian cuisine. She will be preparing Shrimp Skagen with Dark Sweet Bread. Pyttipannu will also be included in the demonstration. This is a traditional Finnish dish of potatoes, onions and other assorted fresh vegetables, diced and panfried with egg, pickled diced beetroot, sour pickled gherkins and capers. Finally, she’ll be showing how to prepare Finnish French Toast with Forest Wild Berries.
Experience a different kind of cuisine and enjoy an afternoon with Chef Sara La Fountain on June 3 at 5:30pm in Eastwood Mall Open Park in Quezon City and June 4 at 5:30PM at Newport Mall, Resorts World Manila. A Taste Of Finland with Sara La Fountain tour is made possible by Megaworld Lifestyle Malls and the Asian Food Channel.
