Toycon 2014: Heroes, Samurais, Robots and Toys Await You

Ah, June. It’s that time of the year again when grown men and women get the chance to go back to being little boys and girls and join the young ones in enjoying toys and other playthings once again. Yep, it’s time for the Philippine Toys, Hobbies, and Collectibles Convention once more. And for their 13th year, the Toycon has a lot in store for event-goers on June 20-21.

One of the major events slated for this is year is Batman’s 75th Anniversary. For that, the Toycon has lined up a lot of activities, promising to be one of the biggest celebrations of the Caped Crusader’s adventures.

As part of the exhibits, event partner Pacific Licensing will be bringing in an awesome holographic display showcasing the various incarnations of the iconic Batmobile throughout the years. There will also be an art gallery featuring the evolution of the character during his colourful history. And since this is the Toycon, a huge assortment of Batman figures and other toys, both classic and new releases, will be available for purchase for Batman fans.

However, Bruce Wayne is not the only hero that is going to make his presence during Toycon 2014. Prepping up for the premiere of their own film, the Guardians of the Galaxy will have their own exhibit showcasing the art of the popular comic book hero team, done by Marvel’s own team of awesome Filipino artists like Carlo Pagulayan, Stephen Segovia, and Leinil Yu. Meanwhile, on the eastern side, the friendly ronin Kenshin Himura is back with the launch of the much anticipated sequels to the first Rurouni Kenshin film.

Robot lovers will also rejoice with the release of the new Transformers: Age of extinction film. Fans can expect to see a whole new host of figures and merchandise featuring Optimus Prime, Galvatron, and the Dinobots.

Aside from these major launches, there are a lot of activities that will definitely keep attendees busy all day long. Just like last year, there will be several custom toy competitions where modders get to showcase their skills. The ever popular cosplay event also gets another contest under its fold with the first ever Toycon J-Fashion competition, where contestants get to strut it out in their best outfits inspired by Japanese fashion trends.

And of course, the Toycon wouldn’t be the Toycon without the toys. As always, there are a lot of them to choose from in the event’s Toy Market section, ranging from playthings for toddlers to collectibles for the grown up boys and girls, all available in affordable event prices.
