Fandom Fest Comic Convention in Niles-Maine Library
Our library was transformed into different world of superheroes, a galaxy of Sci-Fi characters and fantasy. Fandom Fest is a one day celebration of pop culture, geek and comics organized by Niles-Maine Library in Illinois. Attendees had a chance to dressed as their favorite characters (cosplay) and take photos with members from 501st Legion.
The concept was inspired from different "Comic Cons" and the library hosted the event for all ages - free admission! Hosting such kind of event will encourage everyone to appreciate comic books, TV shows and movies. Fandom Fest also feature an artist gallery, trivia contests, a family friendly cosplay parade, creative workshop, art painting and meeting MeTV's Svengoolie as their special guest.
There is also an upcoming schedule of panel discussions and workshops like fangirls and feminism, drawing workshops and tabletop gaming.
Overall, the event itself is a success and I hope our library will make this as an annual event in Summer promoting the geek and pop culture history.
Meet and Greet with Svengoolie
Svengoolie is a hosted horror movie show. The show's title is taken from the name of the character host. The show is a long-running local program in the Chicago area and in recent years expanded nationally, airing Saturday nights on MeTV (Wikipedia).
The meet and greet was held in the second floor of the library. We arrived just in time to secure our meet and greet tickets to Svengoolie and waited for 30 minutes. He arrived wearing his top hat, black suit coat and make up. He also brought along his rubber chicken. He greeted his fans, started signing autographs and photo ops. I was surprised when He told me that He likes my shirt, I'm wearing a Batman shirt I bought from Anime Central Convention.

Thanks to Niles-Maine Library for inviting him. I think I saw one of his episode (his opening scene was waking up in his coffin!) when I was browsing my TV channels when I first got here in the United States. I am so happy to meet him in person.
